Oppo advice time! There is a local-ish race track that has race Driving Experience options. Two of the cars available to race are the Ferrari F430 and the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560. They are available at the same price point, so which one would you recommend?

Ask the instructor which one is less likely to kill you. Or which one is “more forgiving”. Take that one! ;)

Depends on how much fun they let you have. I would go gallardo because of v10 wail and slacker learning curve (awd)

Lambo. More shouty and less likely to kill you to death.

I’d say it depends on your experience. If you have track experience in a fast car, the Ferrari. If not, drive the AWD Gallardo (at least I think that model is AWD).

If you have absolutely zero experience with supercars I’d go with the Lambo, specially if they will actually let you drive it fast.

If they are the kind of company that will basically only let you do a parade lap with it, the Ferrari, just to cross it off the list.

From everything I have read and some limited experience, the Lambo will likely be more forgiving. However, the Ferrari would be the “drivers” car of the two. Source: Drove the 430 Scud as a valet years ago.

My buddy just participated in one of these yesterday. His parents bought him the 430 track time.

His observation was that the course was basically a large autocross track, and he would have been better off driving the AWD Lambo versus the F430.

They let him do a couple runs with his car; a Lotus Exige. He ran faster times in the Exige than the F430 :-)

Which one is the manual? Or which one is on the better tires?

Proper sports car vs GT. I’d rock the horsey, but that’s just me. Should be less understeer and more fun...assuming they let you have any fun.

I'm doing this Saturday and chose the Ferrari. I'm quite excited.

Ferrari. Lamborghini makes excellent street cars, generally, but Ferrari is much more at home on a track. I’ve got quite a bit of experience with the vanilla Gallardo, and even on normal roads it felt heavy and sluggish (relatively).

Clarkson’s quote about “driving it is like trying to manhandle a cow up the back staircase” is apt.

I’ve instructed a few times at these types of events and have driven both. The Gallardo is a little faster but the Ferrari handles better. Most people can’t really tell the difference between how the two feel without driving them back to back. You won’t be disappointed with either.

The Gallardo’s are a tighter fit though; if you are 6ft or taller you might not fit (it won’t be comfortable with a helmet). If there is a convertible option, go with that one. The open top and added noise are great.

I doubt you’ll get there, but the Ferrari will be more playful if you want to kick the rear end out at all. Plus, the Gallardo is awesome, but it’s kind of a VAG product now. Owned by Fiat, or not, Ferrari is purebred Italian still.

If memory serves, the Balboni is the only Gallardo w/ RWD.
